President
NanoCanada
Marie D’Iorio is President of NanoCanada, a network she founded in 2015 with a vision to connect the nanotechnology community across the country. Her leadership has supported partnerships and collaborations between academia, industry, and government to translate scientific breakthroughs to the marketplace.
Dr. D’Iorio is also a Senior Strategy Advisor at the University of Ottawa in the Office of the Vice President, Research. Before joining the University of Ottawa, she led the National Institute for Nanotechnology and the Institute for Microstructural Sciences at the National Research Council of Canada (NRC).
Marie has a Master’s and Doctorate in Solid State Physics from the University of Toronto. She established Canada’s first very low-temperature, high-magnetic-field laboratory to study quantum semiconductor devices, and later led one of Canada’s first research programs on organic light-emitting devices.
Along the way, Marie has witnessed the inspiring depths of research and innovation excellence in Canada. And, she’s seen the opportunities that remain untapped. It’s what drives her to continue helping others access the resources, people, and support that bring their innovations to life.
Marie’s personal passions include spending time with her granddaughter, knitting, and advocacy work for equity, diversity, and inclusion.
